AN EGYPTIAN LIMESTONE RELIEF
New Kingdom, Dynasty XVIII, 1550-1307 B.C.
Sculpted in sunk relief as two vignettes, to the left, an image of Osiris standing on an integral base, inscribed with two columns of hieroglyphic text, reading "Osiris, the great god," the deceased standing before the god in adoration, with five columns of hieroglyphic text between them, one effaced, reading "the scribe and counter of the cattle and fowl of the temple of Amun, the overseer of peasants (or perhaps fowlers), named Djuhty-Nefer (also called Seshu)," behind him a female figure inscribed with three columns of hieroglyphic text, reading "his beloved wife, the mistress of the house, Bembu, the justified;" the vignettes to the right with Anubis, so labeled, and a second image of the deceased, captioned in hieroglyphic text with repeating titles
