AN EGYPTIAN GILT CARTONNAGE MUMMY MASK
Late Ptolemaic to Early Roman Period
1st Century B.C.-1st Century A.D.
The gilt face with painted cosmetic lines and rimmed eyes, wearing a tripartite headcloth, the lappets of which depict Horus and Anubis, respectively, adoring an enthroned Osiris, a winged scarab over the crown of the head in raised relief pushing a ray-spangled solar disk, traces of the fillet's ties with suspended uraei at the back, to their left and right remains of figures of winged deities, the back flap decorated with a figure of Osiris emerging from a djed-pillar, the chest adorned with a gilt broad collar with a central heart amulet, depictions of Anubis on his shrine, and a lower frieze of eleven seated deities, the entire ensemble originally secured to the mummy with linen strips, many of which are still preserved, all bathed in bitumen
