AN ETRUSCAN BRONZE CARYATID MIRROR
Circa Late 4th-3rd Century B.C.
The handle in the form of the goddess Turan (Aphrodite), depicted nude but for soft leather shoes and a pair of bracelets, standing on a triangular base with her right leg in front of her left, holding a folding disk mirror in her raised right hand, with her head angled up to gaze at her reflection, her left hand raised with her fingers extended to her temple, her wavy hair center-parted, with long tendrils banded together in back, strands falling on to each shoulder and down the center of her back, her head surmounted by acanthus to which is pinned the separately cast mirror, the edges beaded, the short tang engraved with a palmette
