A CAMPANIAN RED-FIGURED CALYX-KRATER
Attributed to the Branicki Painter, Circa 320-310 B.C.
The obverse with a symposium: on the left with a standing draped woman playing the double-flute for three reclining banqueters, each with a mantle draped around his legs and over his left shoulder, all playing kotobos with a small kylix held by the index finger of their right hands, the couch with an elaborately draped front, with two quartered disks in the field, a band of dotted egg-pattern above; the reverse with a fully armed Athena seated in the center, her left elbow resting on the rim of her shield, before her a standing draped Nike with offerings, a large cista between them above, and behind her a standing youth holding a branch and a box, a petasos and a mantle over his shoulders; with a standing draped woman above each handle, a band of meander with rosette squares below the scenes, a band of laurel above, and dotted egg-pattern at the rim
