A GREEK POTTERY ASKOS
Canosan, Circa 300 B.C.
With a bust of a winged goddess on the front of the vessel, her head molded in relief, her body and wings painted, additional wings projecting above on either side of the vessel neck and mouth, the vessel surmounted by a standing draped woman with a dove in her right hand, an undulating snake extended behind as the handle, perhaps identifying the woman as Skylla, with extensive pigment preserved throughout
