A ROMAN MARBLE HEAD OF AN OLD MAN
Circa 1st Century A.D.
Sculpted in the round, but with a circular protrusion on the reverse suggesting that this may come from a relief, the head turned slightly to the left, the man with a bald pate and short wavy locks at the sides and back, his forehead creased and the brows furrowed, the thick-lidded convex eyes unarticulated, with a pronounced nose and a severe expression on his lips, the neck with subtle folds
7¾ in. (19.7 cm) high
