A BYZANTINE BRONZE OIL LAMP
Circa 5th Century A.D.
In the form of a standing bird, its head turned to its right, holding a morsel of food in its beak, the flanged nozzle extending from beneath its wings, a suspension loop on each shoulder and one where the wings overlap, attached to three short chains which join to a central hook, the lamp balancing on the two bird talons and a third cylindrical "foot"
