A Continental gilt-metal cylindrical clock case with integral watch
Probably German. Circa 1630, later movement
The case of cylindrical form resting on a plain moulded foot with imbricated concave band beneath the central section engraved with classical male and female heads within oval vignettes joined by floral swags, with figures below seated and facing each other, the domed top pierced and engraved with elaborate formal strapwork interlaced with foliage and above with a smaller band of strapwork terminating with the clock dial, with gilt outer Roman chapters with touchpieces and inner Arabic ring centred by foliage, later hands, the later watch movement signed Heinric Wagner Pirna on the backplate with elaborately pierced and engraved balance cock to the verge escapement with chain fusee, later pierced and engraved brass top surmounted by a figure of a boy holding a dove (not illustrated)
