2 volumes, 4° (297 x 232mm.), engraved title with etched border in volume I, etched border on otherwise blank leaf in volume II, 303 engraved illustrations on 212 sheets, some with aquatint finish, cut down to size and mounted (some light spotting), green straight-grained morocco by C. Smith, blind-stamped patterned border and gilt foliate cornerpieces on sides, spines lettered and elaborately decorated in blind and gilt, gilt turn-ins, gilt edges (extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: presentation copy to Walker Painter (pencilled inscription on verso of front endpaper). FIRST EDITION. Brunet II, 659. (2)
