2° (273 x 195mm.), 159 leaves (of 160, with ff.70 & 71 blank but lacks the final blank), 47 lines and headline, gothic letter (top margins of first few leaves lightly waterstained), 17th-century English limp vellum (small piece missing from spine, lacks ties). Provenance: Early 16th-century inscription on last page recording the book to have been left by a certain Vincent; Johann Moden[?] (later 16th-century ownership inscription on title and a few marginalia and notes in his hand); Ph. Mainwaringe (17th-century signature and price, 16/-, on title).

Sir Philip Mainwaring (1589-1661) trained as a lawyer and for much of his life sat as a member of parliament for various constituencies. In 1634 he was knighted at Dublin and for the next sixteen years served as secretary for Ireland. As a result of his imprisonment by Cromwell he died almost a pauper.
