4 parts in one volume, 4° (199 x 141mm., part 4 193 x 137mm.), engraved titles (the first by M. V. Somer) and 400 round emblematic illustrations in the text by Hans Sibmacher (pt. 4 from a smaller copy, illustration on Q4r in part 4 scratched, S3 of the same part torn and repaired, pt. 4 rather browned and spotted, occasional discolouration in the other 3 parts), contemporary German calf gilt (rebacked), gilt and gauffred edges. Provenance: Kenneth K. Mackenzie (1934 bequest to:) -- Horticultural Society of New York (bookplate).

FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST BOTANICAL EMBLEM BOOK, together with his zoological emblem books devoted to quadrupeds, birds and insects, and fish and reptiles.
