A rare Merrythought 'Punkinhead'
with brown mohair, clear and black glass eyes, inset velvet muxxle, black stitched nose and mouth, golden mohair inner ear and chest, long white mohair scalp, swivel neck, jointed limbs, label on foot and original yellow felt shorts --12¾in. (32.5cm.) high, circa 1951 (very slight wear, feet pads repaired)

Lot Essay

Punkinhead was made exclusively as the mascot for Eaton's Department store in Toronto, Canada. He became the hero of several storybooks, as well as the leader of the annual Santa Claus parade. He appeared in the 1951 catalogue and this is the medium size.
