WINCHESTER, Oliver Fisher. American arms manufacturer. Letter signed ("O. F. Winchester"), to Nelson King, New Haven, CT, November 12, 1875. 1 page, quarto, on stationery illustrated with an image of his factory and imprinted "Winchester Repeating Arms Company", matted and framed with portrait and plaques. In 1860, Winchester's Henry repeating rifle was loosed on the market and became the most popular rifle of the Civil War. A tireless entrepreneur and innovator, Winchester later developed a center fire rifle based on the Henry which achieved near perfection in the Winchester '73, a rifle which is still popular today. A very good letter to his former shop superintendent, now an employee of the Sharpes Rifle Company. "Your letter of 9th inst. [arrived] when I was in New York, and just this moment has come to my attention. We have used up the castings we had to which you refer.
