Lot Essay

Private Thomas Green was born in Castle Ashley, near Northampton and enlisted in the 10th Hussars at Brighton in June 1809, aged 22 years. Subsequently present with his Regiment in the Waterloo Campaign, he was finally discharged in June 1828, 'owing to lameness caused by a severe contused and lacerated wound to the left leg and an injury to the knee joint received on 28 November 1827 while proceeding from Belen to Fort Julian in Portugal'.
