Lot Essay

Brevet Major Hugh Thomas Mathew Berdmore was born in 1811 and was educated at Charterhouse and Addiscombe. Commissioned into the Madras Artillery in 1830, he was advanced to Captain in 1854 and to Major by Brevet in 1856. Following field service in Burma he gained civil employ and, at the time of his death at Shuaygeen on 30.5.1859, was Deputy Commissioner of Martaban.
