Chancery 2o (282 x 201 mm). Collation: a4 b-d8 e6 f-i6.8 k-l6 m8 n-o6 p-q8 r-s6 t8; v-z8.6 A-F8.6. 199 leaves (of 200; without final blank). Gothic types 1:175 (title and headlines), 5:80 (text). 51 lines and headline, double column. Capital spaces, with printed guide-letters. 3- to 5-line Lombard initials supplied in red, paragraph marks, capital strokes, underlinings in red. (Some small wormholes at beginning, mostly marginal but occasionally catching letters, paper flaw on n4 affecting printing on a few lines slightly, some minor marginal dampstains, corner chipped on y1.)

Binding: contemporary German blind-tooled pigskin over unbevelled wooden boards, probably from the Kyriss shop 35, Weissenau Prämonstratenser: the covers with a triple-fillet outer border framing a border panel containing a repeated rosette stamp with an "Agnus Dei" tool at each intersecting corner, inner border panel with a roll of scrolling foliage (Kyriss 5), the central panel divided by intersecting triple crossed fillets into our triangular compartments, eacg containing "Agnus Dei" stamp (as above), two brass catches (lacks clasps).

Provenance: title lettered on lower edge and on upper cover in an early hand -- HILPRAND BRANDENBURG (d.1514; his hand-colored woodcut bookplate, contemporary Buxheim inscription recording his donation: "Liber Carusiensium in Buchhaim prope Memmingen proveniens a confratre nostro domino Hilprando Brandenburg de Bibraco, donato sacerdote...Oretur pro eo et pro quibus desideravit") -- Buxheim, Charterhouse (contents note, donation inscription, armorial library stamp on lower margin of a2, shelfmark M.389. on spine label -- Graf von Ostein -- Graf von Waldbott-Bassenheim (sale, Carl Förster, Munich, 1883) -- purchased from Maggs Bros., London, 31 August 1944 -- donated to SMS 1944.

Probably the second of Flach's five editions of Paratus' Sermones de sanctis. VERY RARE: ISTC only locates one other copy in America (Yale). A VERY FINE COPY FROM THE LIBRARY OF HILPRAND BRANDENBURG.
