Lot Essay
These distinctive tables, with radially veneered tops and sinuously cabriole legs, have the rare feature of being dated by the maker, whose name is frustratingly indecipherable, and relate to other similar tables from the Veneto region. A Venetian table with similar profile to the top in combination with scrolling legs is illustrated in S. Levy, Il Mobile Veneziano del Settecento, Milan, vol II, fig. 220. Other tables from Emilia Romagna, attributed to Modena, with similar legs but of more rounded profile to the tops and more elaborate inlay, are illustrated in G. Manni, Mobili Antichi in Emilia Romagna, Modena, 1993, pp. 240-1, figs. 512-7.
