Lot Essay

The design of these chairs, especially of the arms and stretcher, relates to an armchair dated to the beginning of the 17th Century from the Don Livio Odeschalchi collection (see G. Lizzani, Il Mobile Romano, Milan, 1970, p. 91, ill. 148). Another pair of 19th Century armchairs which also copy this design, were sold in these Rooms, 30 September 1999, lot 126 (£6,900).
