Lot Essay

Pierre Garnier, maître in 1742.

This elegant pair of consoles dessertes, a furniture type developed in the Louis XVI period for the display of porcelain in a salle à manger, demonstrate Garnier's refined ébénisterie skills. Very few examples of this type are known by him, which were more frequently executed by a slightly younger group of ébénistes which include Adam Weisweiler (maître in 1778), Roger van der Cruse, known as Lacroix (maître in 1755) and particularly Gaspard Schneider (maître in 1786).
