The rounded rectangular brèche violette moulded top above a plain frieze carved with flowers and a pierced foliate apron centred by a shell, on cabriole legs headed by reserves of strapwork carved with stylised shells, the legs joined by a X-frame stretcher centred by a platform with Apollo's sunflower, on pieds-de-biche, some carving lacking

Lot Essay

René Fribourg was one of the great 20th Century collectors of French 18th Century and Empire furniture. His collection, housed at 11 East 84th Street, New York was sold in a series of sales at Sotheby's, London in October 1963. Several pieces formerly in his collection, were recently sold from the Riahi Collection, Christie's, New York, 2 November 2000, lots 9, 17 & 45.
