Mark of Samuel Edwards, Boston, circa 1750
Each baluster on a circular molded foot, the high-domed covers pierced and engraved with geometric frets, with baluster finial, engraved under base with block initials E over IA, each marked under base, one cover a later replacement

Lot Essay

Casters held spices to accompany savory dishes, and in England were often kept in a cruet frame with glass bottles for oil and vinegar. The large caster held sugar, and the two smaller held pepper and dry mustard, all of which seasoned meats in stews and "ragouts".
