Decorated in the English style with blue enamel panels of cornflowers enclosed by pink rose sprigs and borders of ovals, all within gilt bands, the centers each with a floral bouquet roundel within an oval of gilt vine

Lot Essay

A cushion-shaped dish in this pattern from the Hodroff collection is illustrated by D.S. Howard, op. cit., p. 138, where he notes that it is after Coalport of about 1805, writing that such dessert services "created a sumptuous effect at this stage of a dinner - and at other times were merely for display"
