One side painted with the muse of Painting seated before an easel, the other that of Astronomy peering through a telescope, both figures seated beside a garden wall and reserved in oval white enamel foliate cartouches on the sky blue ground further decorated with white diaper pattern, the rectangular plaquettes set into the hinged gilt-metal book cover closed with a pencil inserted through loops at the side, lined in emerald silk and fitted with blank paper, restorations
