With a flaming urn cresting carved with ram's masks issuing bellflower swags encompassing the frame, the later oval plate within a gadrooned surround and terminating with an oval paterae pendant, inscribed in blue pencil to the reverse of the urn 045

Lot Essay

The form of this mirror relates closely to a design by the London and Lancaster firm of Gillows. The related design, illustrated here, which dates to 1788, displays similar ram's masks and bell-flower garlands and is illustrated in L. Boynton, Gillow Furniture Designs, 1760-1800, Bloomfield Press, 1995, fig 200.
