Lot Essay

The Clare family from Birmingham, England specialized in executing detailed decorative pictures of fruit, flowers and blossoms. George Clare (1835-1890) painted in a style evocative of William Henry Hunt, producing small, highly detailed pictures of still-life subjects. George's two sons, Oliver (1853-1927) and Vincent (1855-1930), followed closely in their father's artistic footsteps and continued working into the early part of the twentieth century.
