A LARGE ROSE-IMARI "PROVINCES" DISH
Circa 1725
A large coat-of-arms in the center in iron-red, gilt and grisaille inscribed underneath HENEGOUWE' (Hainault), contained within architectural framework with steps leading to a pair of niches containing Chinese ladies, one holding a feather, a cherub in the pediment above, all within underglaze blue diaper patterned borders enclosing small aquatic creature cartouches, small landscape scenes and blossoming boughs
18 7/8in. (48cm.) diam.

See note to following lot. This famille rose pattern, the most elaborate of the four "Provinces" types, demonstrates the continuing desirability of the series as the 1720's decade continued and rose enamel was introduced
