FIRST EDITION OF "ONE OF THE RAREST OF THE NARRATIVES OF EARLY OVERLAND TRAVEL" (Cowan), second issue, with the typesetting errors noted by Graff corrected. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY OVERTON JOHNSON. Johnson and Winter made the 1843 Oregon migration together but parted in Oregon City. Winter travelled on to California. Presentation copies of this already scarce book are highly uncommon, with none appearing in American Book Prices Current for at least three decades.
