Lot Essay

These two works are small-scale replicas of episodes from Giordano's series of paintings on copper depicting the fairy tale of Pysche and Cupid (dated to the 1690s by Ferrari and Scavizzi (loc. cit.), now in the Royal collection, Hampton Court). The story comes from Lucius Apuleius's The Golden Ass (2nd century A.D.).
