Lot Essay

This Frankfurter Nasenschrank is one of the most characteristic pieces of German furniture of the early 18th century. The decoration consists entirely of hohlkehlen and wellen, the lively convex and concave walnut-veneered moldings, which dominate the front. Similar examples in the Historisches and Landesgewerbeanstalt Museums are illustated in H. Kreisel Himmelheber, Die Kunst des Deutschen Möbels, Munich, 1974, fig. 535-6.
