A Norwegian burr birch peg tankard, late 18th or early 19th century
of cylindrical form, the slightly convex cover carved with a lion passant and chip carved zig-zag border, the recumbent lion thumbpiece and chip carved hinge above a ripple edged and carved handle with a shaped terminal, on four bracket feet carved as seated lions, the underside with central stylised flower head, restorations -- 8¾in. (22.2cm.) high
