Dow--Vintage 1960
Levels: two into neck, one very top and two top shoulder; torn and slightly soiled label; wax capsules
Nearly thirty notes mainly in the 1970s to mid-1980s recording normal colour loss, some with orange rim, all consistently noting the high-toned nose, fragrant but with a whiff of volatile acidity, lean but flavoury. (Michael Symington told me that several shippers 1960s had high volatile acidity because of great heat during the vintage.) Then a quantum leap to a lovely bottle with an almost beetroot-like colour, fragrant as before but a sweeter impact, lovely flavour, complete, with dry finish. M.B.
