A FAMILLE ROSE 'DAME AU PARASOL' PLATE
Circa 1736
Enamelled after a design by Cornelis Pronk with a lady and her parasol-bearing attendant walking along a riverbank towards three water-fowl, below a band of delicate flower sprays alternating with blue enamel flowerheads in the well, and a wide band of puce rectangular cell-pattern reserved with cartouches of water-fowl alternating with panels of ladies, the underside with eight iron-red insects

Lot Essay

See footnote to Lot 417. Dr. C. Jörg informs us that records show that only three famille rose dinner services with this design were ordered; this design is more commonly found in the Chinese Imari palette.
