A FAMILLE ROSE 'EUROPEAN-SUBJECT' TEABOWL AND SAUCER
Circa 1755
Decorated en grisaille and in flesh tints in a central roundel with a boy attendant assisting a lady washing in an oval tub, below a gilt scrolling foliage band reserved with puce landscape vignettes, the teabowl similarly decorated with the scene in two oval cartouches, short rim hairline to teabowl

Lot Essay

This scene is taken from the European print entitled 'The Washtub' after Le Mesle. A similar teabowl and saucer is in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
