A Gilt Bronze Figure of Maitreya
Tibet, 15th Century
Finely cast seated in dhyanasana on a double lotus base with hands in vitarka mudra wearing a delicately stippled floral dhoti with incised foliate hems and beaded jewelry inset with hardstones, his hands holding the stems of lotuses flanking his shoulders, his face in a placid expression with lidded eyes and sloping brows centered by an urna flanked by foliate gem-set earrings and surmounted by a five-leaf diadem, his hair arranged in a chignon topped by a gilt stupa
