A SWISS ENAMELLED GOLD AND HARDSTONE BOÎTE-À-PORTRAIT
probably Geneva, circa 1800, the miniature late 19th century
Circular box, the hinged lid set with a glazed miniature of a girl holding a bouquet of flowers, her low-cut white muslin dress tied at her waist with a blue sash, a yellow ribbon in her powdered hair, landscape background, the sides of the box enamelled with roses on a turquoise ground within white borders, the base with a panel of rust coloured striated agate, the borders engine-turned with a coin pattern parcel-enamelled in dark blue flanked by a blue enamel band, bright-cut gold rims
