the carnet-de-bal: Paris, 1784, with the second charge and discharge marks of Henry Clavel 1782-1789; the knife: by Pierre-Innocent Zurich (fl. 1780-1793), marked, with the second charge and discharge marks of Henry Clavel 1782-1789, the steel blade by Michault, Paris, signed; the flask: unmarked; the sealing wax case: with the second discharge mark of Henry Clavel 1782-1789; the pen holder indistinctly marked
carnet-de-bal: rectangular etui-à-tablettes, both sides of cover and base with horizontal wavy guilloché panels scattered with pellets covered with translucent blue enamel, within borders of white and green enamel foliate bands on matted gold ground, the obverse of the base centred by an oval glazed painted miniature of a lady presenting a dove to an altar of love within a green and white enamel foliate border, the reverse of the base with similarly framed oval glazed painted miniature of a cherub at an altar of love holding a burning torch and floral garland with gold pencil holder and three-leaved tablets inside; the folding knife, with steel and gold blades, cap of scent bottle, sealing wax case and propelling pen holder similarly enamelled with horizontal wavy guilloché panels scattered pellets and covered with translucent blue enamel and bordered by green foliate enamel and white dots, the scent-bottle with flattened cut glass body and plain gold stopper
