probably German or English, circa 1750/1760
Fantaisie box in the form of a tobacco-bale, of carved and polished burr-walnut, the gold ropes and mounts with foliate scrolling thumbpiece set with rubies, garnets and silver-mounted old-mine cut diamonds
2 9/16 in. (65 mm.) high
