The Warren Expedition, 1884-85 Major-General Sir Charles Warren came out from England with 4,000 troops to lead an expedition to annex Stellaland and Goshen and bring the Boers under control. Cecil John Rhodes wanted to open the route for a railway line to the north and the two republics were causing a problem. The whole operation was achieved without a shot being fired and the two republics were incorporated under the title Bitish Bechuanaland on 30 Sepember 1885 Miltary Telegraphs
