Lot Essay

This bluish, emerald-green glass is a rare variant from the Imperial glassworks.

It has been suggested that a possible source for this particular form may be found in European watches which had considerable influence on early Qing court enameling. For a number of examples, see E. Geshwind, Montres Francaises, French Watches, Französische Uhren, 1580-1680, Basel, 1983, nos. 10, 11 and 13.
