A VERY FINE RED OVERLAY GLASS BOTTLE
Probably Imperial, attributed to the Palace Workshops, Beijing, 1740-1770
Of flattened, rounded form, very finely carved through the ruby-red overlay to the milky-white ground on either side with a shou (longevity) character surrounded by five bats (wufu), all within a vaporous circular border, the narrow sides carved with masks and fixed-ring handles, stopper
2 3/16in. (5.5cm.) high

Five bats (wufu) represent the Five Blessings: longevity, wealth, health, love of virtue and a peaceful death.
