Of flattened high-shouldered tapering form, the salmon-colored material intricately carved with a wide band of peonies between key-fret borders at the base and waisted neck, stopper

Lot Essay

The Japanese response to rapidly growing American and other Western collecting interest in snuff bottles was to produce both copies of Chinese types, and others which were purely Japanese decorative style. These were produced after the opening up of Japan in the 1860's in quite large numbers.
