Of rounded-rectangular form, boldly carved on either side with archaistic dragons confronted on a pearl, their tails metamorphosing into chilong heads, the white stone dramatically accented with deep reddish-brown mottling, stopper

Lot Essay

The staining of nephrite to resemble pebble material, or to enhance existing skin, was a common practice in post-Song jade carving, and an option frequently used at the Palace workshops, particularly under the Qianlong emperor.
