A RARE WELL-CARVED IVORY-WHITE AND BLACK JADE BOTTLE

Of rounded rectangular shape, the predominantly ivory-white stone carved in relief with a continuous mountainous landscape incorporating a pavilion set beneath craggy ledges, with a crane in flight above, the reverse with bats and clumps of lingzhi near a rock, the black markings cleverly utilized to enhance the scene, well hollowed, stopper

Lot Essay

This is one of a distinctive group of early Suzhou jade bottles, probably from the earlier part of the Qianlong reign. They have lower relief, softer detailing, and are not as emphatic as their later counterparts.
