A CHARMING RETRO GEM-SET AND ENAMEL "FANTASY" CIGARETTE CASE
The fluted rose and green gold case of rectangular outline, designed as a fantastical landscape depicting a pavé-set diamond, calibré-cut and buff-top sapphire, ruby and emerald sculpted castle within an enameled, nephrite and lapis lazuli background, enhanced by single-cut diamond, cabochon and carved sapphire and ruby swans and songbirds, with baguette-cut diamond and carved emerald trees, the sky decorated with cabochon moonstone clouds, single-cut diamond stars and moon, and a calibré-cut sapphire and single-cut diamond monogram bearing the initials "MHB", opening to reveal a variety of engraved musical instruments and a staff of music with the lyrics "knows the one I love-Sweet Sue", enhanced by diamond, sapphire and ruby collet accents, mounted in 14k rose, green and yellow gold, (inscribed on the reverse "Lil'E- My gratitude and friendship are ever yours. -Love always Little" and inside "Christmas 1945"), circa 1945, 3 x 4 7/8 x ½ ins.
