A finely built mid 19th-Century, possibly apprentice, model single cylinder 'A' frame overcrank stationary engine,
in brass and ferrous metal, the platform mounted cylinder approx. 1in. bore x 2¼in. stroke with centrally mounted valve chest with separate steamways, inlet pipework with flanged joint, main stop and governor valves, the main stop with pointer and mounting bracket, exhaust pipe also with flanged joint, cylinder head lubricator, studded stuffing box, the piston rod crosshead being a scotch crank with round guide rods with finials below and bracing above. The crankshaft is supported by two bearings mounted on top of the 'A' frames and the eccentric is arranged to allow alteration to the valve timing and the flywheel is centrally mounted with a round rim and integrally cast round spokes. Other details include rope driven Watt type governor and linkage, outboard mounted 'V' belt pulley serving as a disc crank to vertically mounted feed pump, the whole finished in polished brightwork and mounted on a mahogany plinth. Measurements overall -- 15 x 13½in. (38 x 34.3cm.)
