Chappell's first Test as captain, succeeding his brother Ian. He scored a century in each innings, the first and only captain in Test cricket to do so, helping Australia win the first Test by 8 wickets. He also became the only Australian to score a century in each innings of a Test on two occasions having scored a century in each innings (247 n.o. and 133 v New Zealand at Wellington in 1974). This was one of only 4 occasions in Test history a double century and a century were scored in the same match. Clive Lloyd later said 'Beautiful wasn't it? He's just a great player. My only consolation is that he can't possibly do better than that on this tour.' Jack Fingleton wrote of Chappell's first innings.' Chappell also used this bat during the inaugural 'World Cup' in England 1975
