FREEMAN, R. Austin. The Uttermost Farthing. A Savant's Vendetta. Philadelphia: The John C. Winston Company, 1914.

8o. Frontispiece and plates by H. Weston Taylor. Original red decorated cloth, gilt-lettered on front cover and spine; printed dust jacket reproducing the design on the cover (slightest rubbing affecting a few letters on rear panel, lightly sunned, a few small chips at extremities); cloth folding case.

FIRST EDITION, A FINE COPY WITH THE RARE DUST JACKET. This edition preceded the English edition by six years. Ellery Queen notes that this book, composed of "individual, but connected, stories within the framework of a novel," was "rejected by English publishers until 1920... because of its 'objectionable' homicidal details" (Ellery Queen, The Detective Short Story: A Bibliography, New York, 1969). Donaldson 10 (making no reference to a dust jacket).
