Two volumes, 8o. Illustrations in text. Original color pictorial wrappers (the first with some light dampstaining, the second with front cover detached and torn in half and read cover with lower portion torn away but present).

FIRST EDITION of "the second most famous literary puzzle" (see Queen's Quorum, p.25).

Original red cloth, black-lettered on front cover and spine, small printed flap at end reading "The Mysterious Card Unveiled". FIRST EDITION IN BOOK FORM: "the exact year [of publication] is unknown, even the Library of Congress having no date on record" (Queen's Quorum, p.26). Later printings by Small, Maynard bear a date of 1912. (3)
