Lot Essay

In a letter addressed to Christopher Forbes dated April 29, 1985, Mrs. Schillinger indicates that the purpose of the small holes on the rim of the present bangle was to attach a diamond spray which H.M. Queen Olga of Greece inserted for dressier occassions, as explained to her by a late friend of Prince Christopher of Greece.

Mrs. Schillinger also acquired a similar Fabergé matching bangle which belonged to the Duchess of Kent (Sotheby's London, 20 June 1960, lot...) which she received from Princess Nicholas of Greece, mother of the Duchess (letter from the Duchess of Kent to Mrs. Schillinger, dated August 11th, 1960).
