Lot Essay

A variant of the signed picture of 1643 sold, Sotheby's, London, 16 December 1999, lot 41 (£177,500). The compositions are identical but for the silver pot on the left side which is here reversed. The Sotheby's picture extends slightly on the left, indicating that the left edge of the present panel might have been trimmed.
